Amo 9:13 KJV Behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.
While you immediately think of the land receiving and producing from this verse in Amos, it's Hebrew rendering is very different when considering how some of the words are biblically used. For instance, take the word we translate as land: ADAMAH (אֲדָמָה) H127, from the word ADAM meaning red or ruddy. The Hebrew word DAM is blood. You can see that Man, who came from the dust of ADAMAH mixed with the breath of life from YHWH became a living NEPHESH (soul). DAM, ADAM, ADAMAH are all biblically and spiritually related.
When we see ADAMAH burst for with life and readily receive the seed of new life, it is not just limited to agricultural produce but naturally extends to the spiritual produce of ADAM. Many of Yeshua's lessons and parables about the RUACH (Spirit) was conveyed through agricultural terms and metaphor. This is also how YHWH directed his word to be conveyed to people, through the physical ADAMAH experience to learn of the Spiritual ADAM.
The plow looms large in the opening verse of the song, as well as in the verse above for many reasons. One reason is that it shows that ADAMAH has produced a healthy crop and is ready to receive life producing seed again for the next cycle, in fact overtaking the reaper. Second is the deeper meaning in the Hebrew word translated as plow: Charash (חָרַשׁ) H2790. Gesenius writes in his lexicon that CHARASH means “To cut into, to inscribe letters on a tablet”. Charash is more frequently translated into English as the word PEACE than plow! To me, I see this as YHWH's word expressing that just as a hardened but fertile land can be cut into to receive and sustain new life, so can the word of YHWH pierce the stony heart and take root in man, repeatedly! We should not then guard our SPIRITUAL FRUIT, but in faith harvest it often in hope of the future new life abundance being planted by his engrafted word today!
It also gives us insight into what James is expressing when he states:
Jas 3:18 KJV And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
Jas 1:21 KJV Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
It really seemed like a great way to open a song celebrating the new life and abundance that the Ruach Ha Qodesh (Holy Spirit) can bring when our ADAM is willing to receive, not in pride or in selfish motivation, but with meekness the engrafted word! (Both written and the one made flesh)
